Brotherless Nights

I was honoured to interview VV Ganeshananthan for 3AM Magazine about her powerful book Brotherless Nights, a New York Times editor’s recommendation. The story is about a family of four young siblings fractured by the Civil War in Sri Lanka in the 1980s. We talked about the careful, detailed research the writer did for the book and consequently how long it took to write. It features the brave and intelligent female first-person protagonist, Sashi, who at the start is studying for A levels and wants to become a doctor. The book deals with the complex, difficult choices people face in times of civil war.
